Susie's experience in the field of behavioral health has been an eclectic mix of direct practice, program development, clinical supervision, adjunct instruction and providing professional development courses in evidence based practices. Her drive for curiosity allows her to conceptualize human behavior and behavioral health from a different perspective that she integrates with her unique clinical style. Susie lives in Ada, Michigan and is licensed to work with clients in Michigan, California, Colorado, and Florida. In the summer she can be found in her Riedels, skating a trail somewhere whilst listening to her most recent "skate jam" playlist. In the winter she enjoys hibernating with a bottle of Vitamin D.
In therapy we will find ways and develop skills to challenge and change thoughts, actions and feelings responsible for perpetuating behavioral health difficulties in your life. The first couple sessions will focus on assessing what's going on in your life by examining predisposing and perpetuating factors for the problems you are facing. We will discuss the role of the brain in these difficulties and how primitive parts of the brain contribute to the challenges you face. Together we will create a plan to address your symptoms, which we will continue to measure weekly throughout treatment. In session we will use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction to retrain your brain, monopolize on your protective factors and develop new skills to reduce symptoms and maintain improvements in your behavioral health. In sessions we will identify realistic and tangible skills for you to continue your progress between sessions. Some examples of this include,
Listening to an podcast or watching a video.
Practicing small, tangible, and realistic "behavior experiments."
Completing a worksheet or reading a short informational sheet.
Engaging in at least 10 to 15 minutes of self care a few times a week
