The buzz of manifestation is all around us. If you open your social media, there is a high chance you will come across the idea of manifesting your dreams and goals. Now what is the lure behind manifestation and does it really work. Does making a vision board and speaking out your goals really make it come to fruition?
If you’re skeptical of social media lingo and trends like me, you may have rolled your eyes once or twice at the sound of manifesting your dreams. While the picture of standing in the mirror and saying “I will be rich” seems like making a wish on a shooting star, there is actual psychological and neurobiological principles that back the positive impacts of visualizing your goals. What they don’t tell you on social media is the key role of making intentional actions in addition to your manifestation. So, what makes manifesting fact, and what causes manifestation to be a load of crap.
The key factors in manifestation consist of positive thinking, visualizing, and intentional action. As I previously mentioned, manifestation is like wishing on a shooting star without acting. While wishing on a shooting start promotes positive thinking and visualization, it can remain a wish without taking matters into your own hands. So here is your guideline, and information, on how manifestation is fact!
Positive thinking
Positive thinking consists of re-framing your belief system. Using the example of “I want to be rich”, you may have previously thought, “I couldn’t possibly be rich” or “There’s no way I will ever be financially stable.” These negative thought cycles are quite literally building a block to achieve your goals. You are fighting yourself before you even start. Instead, positive thinking allows for the space in your mind to believe that you can do it. This is a pivotal role in achieving your dreams and goals. Positive thinking helps to build confidence and self-esteem that is necessary to achieve what you set out to do!
Practical Tools for Positive Thinking:
Positive Affirmations such as “I can achieve what I set my mind to”
Challenging Negative Core Beliefs- Question the voices in your head that say you can’t, with memories of times that you have achieved hard things!
Mel Robins High Five- High Five yourself in the mirror when you get up in the morning.
Visualizing your goals
Visualizing your goals is an important step in continuing to promote self-esteem and confidence. Envisioning yourself crossing that finish line helps to promote the notion that you can do it. Imagining your goals, along with positive outcomes, actively engages your drive for motivation and focus. The act of visualizing your goals creates healthy neuropathways in your brain. These neuropathways create a roadmap in your brain that reinforces the notion that you can do it.
Practical Tools for Visualizing:
Create a vision board- this is a physical reminder of your goals!
Journaling
Mindfulness and Meditation
Intentional Action
Intentional action is what makes manifestation fact, not crap. At this stage, you have already done the hard part of re-framing your thoughts and visualizing your success. Now is the time to put your mental strength into action. Acting on your goals embraces your new potential identity. Most humans undervalue their self-worth; by acting on your goals you are again reinforcing the notion that you are worthy of this change!
Practical Tools for Intentional Action:
SMART Goals- Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely! Break down the big picture into manageable steps so that you can accomplish wins along the way. You are setting yourself up for success instead of failure.
Find your Why! - This is a big tool that I use with my patients. Find your motivation for change, and cling to this when the going gets tough.
